There was scare on Sunday morning at the Ogaga Street near the popular Effurun Market in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State when a young lady was discovered to be vomiting N500 notes, three weeks after her pant was allegedly stolen.
It was learnt that the victim identified as Mariam Abdul and her husband raised the alarm of her missing pants and wrapper she hanged in front of her one-room apartment.
WARRI TODAY gathered that trouble started when her husband allegedly discovered that his wife was experiencing strange feelings and vomiting water and subsequently some naira notes followed at about 3:45am on Sunday morning.
When the situation became uncontrollable, the husband, Taye Adekunle, called for the help of neighbours as he watched hopeless as Mariam vomits N500 notes one after the other.
It was gathered that both Mariam and Adekunle are both Muslims from the South West.
Residents who witnessed the incident told this reporter that it took hours of prayers by a pastor and residents in the neighbourhood to bring the situation to a normalcy as thousands of sympathisers thronged the compound to witness the incident.
At about 6:56am, when our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, the lady was said to have stopped vomiting and was at the pastor’s house receiving prayers in the presence of some policemen drafted from the Warri Area Command.
A neighbour who does not want to be mentioned said, “At about 3:45am, we heard a strange voice of ‘help me o’ from their apartment. The man was calling for help. Many of us could not open our doors until we heard the voices of some vigilante men in the area. When we got there, the saw the lady vomiting N500 notes.
“I would have doubted if I had not seen her myself. We’re all dumbfounded because we don’t know what to do. The N500 notes were coming out one after the other. It was through the effort of the pastor and some residents who were praying for her that she stopped.
“Three weeks ago, she and her husband announced that her pant which was hung in front of their apartment was missing. No one claim to see the pant. We suspect that whoever stole the pant might have used it for ritual purpose since it is the reigning thing.”
The scene became a sort of market when some youths began to sell videos and pictures showing the bucket containing the money the lady allegedly vomited.
The lady was, however, whisked away from the pastor’s house by a team of policemen accompanied at about 9:02am amidst sporadic gunshots.
Our correspondent observed that Mariam’s face was shrouded from sympathizers who were waiting to snap her with their mobile phones with a headgear while being backed out of the vicinity by a lady.
The husband was also whisked away alongside the pastor by the policemen from the B’ Division Warri.
When contacted, the Police Area Commander, Warri, Mr. Muhammad Shaba confirmed receiving citrep of the incident, saying that the victim had been rushed to hospital for medical attention.
According to him, “Today, according to the DPO (B’ Division), he received a distressed call this morning. That one Taye Adekunle of Ogaga Street Warri reported to B’Division that three weeks ago his wife, Mariam Abdul, washed two pants and a wrapper and spread them outside their apartment. That the two pants and the rapper was stolen by unknown thieves.
“That Saturday 22nd December, his wife started experiencing strange spiritual attacks and then he invited a pastor and when he started praying for her, she started vomiting water including 14 pieces of N500 notes. The victim had been taken to hospital but when they are done the case will be transfer to state CID.”
