CJN Onnoghen: South-South governors meet tomorrow in Abuja

Governors of the South-South states will on Sunday meet in Abuja over the Monday’s planned arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen by the Federal Government.

The emergency meeting is being summoned at the instance of the Governor of Bayelsa State and chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Hon. Seriake Dickson.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media Relation’s to Governor Dickson, Fidelis Soriwei, confirmed the meeting on Saturday.

All governors of the South-South region are expected to attend the meeting.

The statement said the emergency meeting would deliberate on the recent development involving Justice Onnoghen.

It also noted that the governors would also discuss growing insecurity in the Niger Delta ahead of the forthcoming general elections and the issue of derivation.

According to the statement, “While he (Dickson) was yet to know the full details surrounding the developments at the Supreme Court concerning the CJN, it is a grave and dangerous escalation coming a few weeks to the general elections.

“The South-South governors would address a press conference after the meeting to convey the position of the zone to the Nigerian public.”

The statement, however, observed that all hands must be on the deck to prevent the subversion and desecration of the nation’s democracy as the nation moves nearer to elections.
